Despise the Free Lunch

A while back, someone offered to pick our (friends and I) bill. I didn't think we knew the person that well for him feed us. He wasn't working with World Food Program either. I politely said: it's not necessary. To date, person tells whoever cares to listen that I am proud. If only he knew me well enough.

See.. pride has two dimensions. There's stupid pride (when you're a nobody, but go around insulting people) and useful pride (the kind that saves you from people that have little value to add to your life). I can never apologise for latter.

When you pay your own bills, it saves you from owing people anything. There's nothing like a free meal out there. Humans are inherently driven by self-interest. Free things come with obligations - often hidden to the untrained mind.

Say NO to the free lunch!
